Brickworks opens new Tasmanian design centre

With Tasmania continuing to enjoy an enviable run of rising property values and building construction, we are delighted to announce the opening of a new Design Centre on ‘The Apple Isle’.
The new Centre in Brisbane Street, Launceston, completes our coverage of the state and was opened on the 3rd September by Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten, two years after the launch of the hugely successful Hobart Design studio.
As a measure of the strength of the local building and construction market, the showroom will attract architects, designers, builders, developers, and retail customers looking to make product selections including brick, block and stone, timber and concrete and clay roof tiles.
Says Brickworks Managing Director, Lindsay Partridge, “Brickworks has a 15-year history in Tasmania and is committed to supporting the local building construction market which is an important driver of Tasmania’s economy. Currently, we employ 33 staff in the state, including 24 at our Longford plant. According to the Housing Industry Association, total residential building activity growth in Tasmania was the highest in Australia last financial year, up almost 20%, and this is forecast to grow a further 5% next year.”
A short distance from Launceston Design Centre is the nearby Brickworks plant at Longford, which is hard-pressed to keep up with demand. It produces 13 million bricks each year, including Australia’s only certified carbon-neutral brick. In fact, Brickworks is Tasmania’s only local clay brick manufacturer, which is little wonder that the local building industry looks to Brickworks to partner in its continuing growth.
