Jun Aoki was born in Yokohama, Japan, in 1956 and graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1982. After working with Arata Isozaki and associates, he founded Jun Aoki & Associates in 1991 to do ‘anything that seemed interesting’. Works have ranged across architecture, interiors and art including a series of houses, public facilities, quite a number of fashion boutiques for Louis Vuitton, and art work like U bis and Red and Blue Line.
Jun received the Architectural Institute of Japan Annual Award (1999) and Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize (2005). Jun is currently a Professor at Tokyo University of the Arts, and Director of Kyoto City Museum of Art.
In 2020 Jun Aoki and Associates was reorganised and renamed AS, under the joint partnership of Jun Aoki and Masatoshi Shinagawa.
