Presentation Overview

Damian Johnson, Senior Airport Engineer at Beca will present and discuss the Defence National Aircraft Pavement Maintenance Project that involves the airfield inspection for the design of maintenance works and forecast for capital works planning across all the 28 Australian Defence Force airfields.

The approximately $15 million dollar per annum project aims to deliver routine aircraft pavement maintenance works to the airfields based on aircraft traffic use. The program involves regular visual inspection to identify pavement condition and maintenance requirements using products available in the market.

The presentation will provide an overview of the program, the condition rating system, principle pavement defects, maintenance repair techniques and summary of the benefits / lessons learnt.

Background

Damian is a Senior Airport Civil Engineer specialising in airfield engineering, design and project management.

Since joining Beca, Damian has managed the successful delivery of numerous airfield projects.

He has experience in design and construction management of heavy duty airfield pavements and associated airport services infrastructure.

Damian has had a broad client exposure having delivered projects throughout Australia.

He was design manager for the Runway Resurfacing project at Gold Coast Airport, the Southern Apron Expansion Project at Melbourne Airport.

Most recently he has been Design Lead responsible for the inspection and design phases of the National Aircraft Pavement Maintenance (NAPM) Project on behalf of the Defence Support and Reform Group.
