Innovative retaining wall systems offer new options, applications and solutions for Infrastructure projects. Many of these ground-breaking systems are being tried and tested on current projects in Australia and around the world.

In this webinar, our international speakers will discuss how these innovative systems are positively impacting the way engineers design and construct modern retaining walls. They will explain the current design challenges, provide insights into the evaluation of competing systems, reasons for selection/application of materials and share local and global case studies on retaining wall structures referencing real-world examples. Specifically, the Barangaroo Project in New South Wales we be used as the main case study.

The Barangaroo Project is one of Sydney’s most exciting infrastructure projects, spanning from 2003 – 2024. The projects focus is to reinvent the western waterfront of Sydney’s’ central business district and to transform East Darling Harbour into a new urban district. One key feature of this redevelopment is the two kilometres of retaining walls at Barangaroo Headland Park.

Guest Speakers
Robert Race, PE, MBA
Race Engineering and Associates

Robert is an experienced engineering executive with a background in civil and geotechnical engineering. Robert is currently the owner of Race Engineering and Associates in Minneapolis, USA, where he provides expert advice on the design of mechanically stabilised earth structures such as slopes and walls. Robert has had a long spanning career in both national and international positions in engineering and marketing. His work with well-known firms and brands include; Keystone Retaining Wall Systems, Tensar Earth Technologies, and CRS Sirrine (a No. 1 Design/Build Firm). Robert brings a wealth of knowledge from career projects that have included nuclear and fossil power plants, industrial plants, dams, deep foundations, slope stability, MSE walls and slopes and GREEN solutions.

Over the past 20 years Robert has worked with new technologies that have developed into successful ventures changing the industry standards for civil engineering. Highlights include Tensar Earth Technologies, which grew from a start-up company with a new product to over a $350M firm; and Keystone Retaining Walls., which were developed and marketed modular block retaining walls and helped grow an industry with over $6Bil sales.
